Swine erysipelas is a bacterial infectious disease caused by Erysipelas rhusiopathiae. The clinical manifestations of this disease can be classified into acute, subacute, and chronic forms. The acute form typically occurs during the early stage of an outbreak, characterized by sudden death in individual healthy pigs without any clinical symptoms. Most affected pigs initially exhibit reduced feed intake, vomiting, generalized muscle tremors, body temperature elevation above 42℃, lethargy, reluctance to move, and passage of dry,hard feces.Some infected pigs may experience alternating episodes of constipation and diarrhea, with the appearance of erythematous lesions of varying shapes and sizes on the skin surface that blanch upon pressure. Younger pigs infected with E. rhusiopathiae often develop neurological symptoms, such as generalized convulsions. The subacute form primarily manifests as skin eruptions, commonly referred to as "firebrand spots" or "ghost prints," though such cases are relatively rare in practical production settings. The chronic form usually develops from acute or subacute stages, predominantly presenting with endocarditis and joint arthritis in the limbs. Affected pigs exhibit joint swelling, suppuration, impaired mobility, slow growth, and in severe cases, may succumb to exhaustion.

Erysipelas swineensis does not exhibit distinct seasonality, but it occurs most frequently in summer, with sporadic cases also observed during winter and spring. The disase predominantly affects sows and growing pigs. Erysipelas swineensis exhibits a certain persistence, manifesting as sporadic or endemic outbreaks. Factors such as the presence of non-infectious diseases, extreme temperature fluctuations, or sudden changes in feed composition may predispose to disease occurrence.

Erysipelas swinei is a highly detrimental bacterial infectious disease in livestock farming, causing significant economic losses to farmers and requiring heightened attention.

Control Methods for Swine Erysipelas

·Vaccination is the preferred method for preventing swine erysipelas.
·Enhance feeding management to ensure environmental hygiene and provide balanced nutrition.
·Imported pigs must be isolated in dedicated quarantine facilities for at least one month and undergo rigorous vaccination protocols, antibody level testing, and successful sanitation disinfection before being transferred to the main herd.

DankeQing recommends immunological methods

Sow: Administer intramuscular injection of 4 mL per head into the neck muscle, followed by a booster dose at the same dosage every 30 days,and subsequent immunizations every 180 days thereafter.
Weaned piglets: Intramuscular injection of 2 mL per head.

Precautions for the use of Dankeqing

·Freezing must be strictly avoided; frozen vaccines are prohiited for use.
·Before use,the vaccine should be restored to room temperature and thoroughly shaken.
·Pigs that are emaciated, exhibit abnormal body temperature, or show abnormal appetite should not be vaccinated.
·Local disinfection should be performed during vaccination.
·Generally, no adverse reactions occur after vaccination;however,mild swelling or induration may occasionally appear at the injection site and will gradually resolve.
·Used vaccine vials, equipment, and unused vaccines should be disposed of through harmless treatment.
